Explore Our Program

Fellows at Children’s National average more than 1,600 operative cases over two years, spanning the full spectrum of pediatric general and thoracic surgery. With early operative autonomy and progressive responsibility, fellows serve as the primary surgeon on both routine and complex cases, including neonatal, oncologic and congenital surgeries. A major emphasis is placed on minimally invasive surgical techniques, with extensive experience in laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures — including neonatal operations and complex thoracic and abdominal cases — performed under the guidance of international experts and pioneers in the field.

In addition to a high case volume, fellows gain specialized experience through exposure to several nationally recognized programs, including advanced endoscopy (with offerings such as POEM for achalasia), the world’s largest pediatric colorectal program, and a comprehensive pediatric and adolescent bariatric surgery program. These unique training opportunities prepare fellows to enter any clinical or academic practice with exceptional technical expertise and versatility.
