Residency Training Tracks

In any program, it is essential that residents can tailor their curriculum to match their individual learning style and professional goals. The first way that residents at Children’s National can do this is by selecting which “track” to participate in throughout their residency.

Tracks are longitudinal programs that are determined on Match Day and last for the duration of the residency. All tracks have 24 months of pediatric training in common, ensuring that graduates all provide superb pediatric care and can pursue careers in general pediatrics or subspecialty training. Additional rotations are included in each track to offer residents opportunities that meet their unique career goals and interests.

Categorical Pediatrics

Most of our residents take part in our Categorical Track, which most closely aligns with a “traditional” pediatric residency training program. This track offers outstanding subspecialty and primary care experiences to help prepare residents for their future careers. There are 22 residents per year in this track.
