What You Need to Know

Birthmarks are areas of discolored and/or raised skin that are apparent at birth or within a few weeks of birth. Birthmarks are made up of malformed pigment cells or blood vessels.

Types of Pigmented Birthmarks

The most common types of pigmented birthmarks:

  • Moles
  • Café au lait spots
  • Mongolian spots

Types of Vascular Birthmarks

Type of vascular birthmark include:

  • Angel's kisses
  • Stork bites
  • Hemangioma
  • Port-wine stain
