As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding the health of children in our community, Children's National Hospital is actively monitoring the measles situation and responding to developments with the utmost care. In light of recent reports and the potential for increased measles cases, we want to ensure that you have the most up-to-date resources and guidance to support your practice and protect your patients.

Reporting and Prevention

If you suspect a case of measles, it's important to promptly report it to local health authorities to prevent further spread. Ensure that families follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance on quarantine and isolation to reduce the risk of transmission.

Measles Referral Guidelines

To ensure public health safety, especially for critically ill and immunocompromised patients in local hospitals, contact your local health department if you have a patient with suspected measles. Learn how to care for these patients including when and how to refer them for the care they need.

Measles Information for Healthcare Providers

Children's National hosted a Measles Provider Town Hall on March 10, 2025, to bring together healthcare providers and our Infection Diseases Specialist, Nada Harik, MD, in response to the growing concerns around measles in our region. This forum addressed the latest developments, shared evidence-based guidelines, and offered information on best practices for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of measles.
